| Passenger Traffic up at Oman Airports during the first 6 months of 2012 | ||

The total number of passengers at Muscat International Airport has increased by 20% to 3,749,000 passengers during the first 6 months of 2012 from 3,114,452 passengers for the same period last year.
According to an official from Oman Airports Management Company the number of arriving passengers including transfers has increased by 23% to 1,893,771 passengers during the first 6 months of 2012 from 1,541,897 passengers for the same period last year. The number of departing passengers including transfers has increased by 18 % to 1,808,359 passengers during the first 6 months of 2012 from 1,535,803 passengers for the same period last year. Total Passenger numbers in the month of June 2012 has increased by 17% to 648,294 passengers from 555,625 passengers in June 2011.. The number of civil aircraft movements at Muscat International Airport has increased by 9% to 36,250 aircraft movements for the first 6 months of 2012 from 33,337 movements for the same period last year. Total freight and mail movements has increased by 23% to 59,415 tons during the first 6 months of 2012 from 48,403 tons for the same period last year. The total number of passengers at Salalah Airport has increased by 25% to 294,209 passengers during the first 6 months of 2012 from 236,288 passengers during the same period last year. The number of civil aircraft movements at Salalah Airport has increased by 28% to 2,750 aircraft movements for the first 6 months of 2012 from 2,141 movements for the same period last year. Total freight and mail movements has increased by 3% to 677 tons during the first 6 months of 2012 from 655 tons for the same period last year. Muscat International Airport has in recent years experienced a period of healthy growth in passenger numbers, this positive and considerable growth is expected to continue for the foreseeable future. It is being driven by a number of factors including increases in capacity and frequency by the existing carriers. This in turn is being fuelled by the growth and development of the tourism industry within the country as well as strong commercial and economic activity and new airlines operating into Muscat International Airport such as Ethiopian Airlines, United Airways of Bangladesh and Indigo . Air Arabia has also started its first flights to Salalah Airport recently. - July 2012 |
