Passenger Traffic up at Oman Airports during the first 3 months of 2012
The total number of passengers at Muscat International Airport has increased by 21% to 1,840,536 passengers during the first 3 months of 2012 from 1,526,040 passengers for the same period last year.

According to an official from Oman Airports Management Company the number of arriving passengers including transfers has increased by 22% to 944,833 passengers during the first 3 months of 2012 from 773,274 passengers for the same period last year. The number of departing passengers including transfers has increased by 19 % to 865,113 passengers during the first 3 months of 2012 from 728,203 passengers for the same period last year.

Total Passenger numbers in the month of March 2012 has increased by 24% to 631,933 passengers from 510,509 passengers in March 2011.

The number of civil aircraft movements at Muscat International Airport has increased by 9% to17,974 aircraft movements for the first 3 months of 2012 from 16,539 movements for the same period last year.

Total freight and mail movements has increased by 29% to 29,893 tons during the first 3 months of 2012 from 23,184 tons for the same period last year.

The total number of passengers at Salalah Airport has increased by 26% to 149,125 passengers during the first 3 months of 2012 from 118,375 passengers during the same period last year.

Total freight and mail movements has increased by 22% to 388 tons during the first 3 months of 2012 from 318 tons for the same period last year.

Muscat International Airport has in recent years experienced a period of healthy growth in passenger numbers, this positive and considerable growth is expected to continue for the foreseeable future. It is being driven by increases in capacity and frequency by the existing carriers. This in turn is being fuelled by the growth and development of the tourism industry within the country as well as strong commercial and economic activity.
